Welcome to my new blog!

Welcome to the first installation of my new blog!

With the addition of acupuncture and Chinese medicine into my practice I am looking forward to being able to help your health issues from an even deeper holistic perspective. Clearly there are limits to Western medicine especially if you are wanting to treat the cause of an issue and not just the effects. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are a "back to the future" approach that are being verified by modern scientific research. Unlike Western medicine, it is not a one size fits all approach but exactly the opposite, so that your condition is treated specifically and uniquely. How does it work?

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are part of an ancient system of natural healing that adjust the electrical and energy systems of the body. The Chinese named body energy, Qi, and alot like electricity, Qi  has a positive and negative charge. The Chinese term for this is Yin and Yang.  So before Western science discovered positive and negative charges in electrical currents, the Chinese knew about this basic polarity operating in the Universe and our bodies. So you have to give them credit for their astute observations. Furthermore they were able to observe that our Qi flows through us in energy circuits (called Channels or Meridians). Simply put, disease happens when, under different kinds of stress, the Qi gets tangled or disturbed, eventually culminating in symptoms. This is what we are fixing and realigning with acupuncture and herbs to create good health.

I know many of you do not want to be taking drugs or are worried about degenerative conditions leading to surgery. If you have a pulse and some will power you can do this!  One way to understand Yin and Yang related to health is creating a balance of activity (Yang) and resting well (Yin). Most of our daily activity is too sedentary and we're not getting enough physical exercise. On the other hand we're mentally over active, emotional and stressed. This is a double whammy on the body and it's energy systems. To fix this imbalance you are going to need to exercise your body and meditate to calm your mind. Both are excellent choices.

On the other hand if you don't have time to both exercise AND meditate and you don't want to have to choose then consider attending a tai chi or yoga class. Like exercise, these classes pump your body and like meditation, they quiet your mind at the same time!  This is why activities such as yoga, tai chi and qi gong are so effective at balancing Yin and Yang. They are efficient at helping us get stronger and improve our circulation and energy level as well as helping us stay calm, centered and focused. Come join a class, balance your Yin and Yang and get healthier starting today!
